A small environment services provider had been pursuing several outstanding invoices. They had invoiced and contacted several individuals within the larger company over a period of months, until they felt they had no choice but to cease providing their services due to the lack of payment. Their next step was to reach out to the OSBC.

The OSBC set about gathering evidence and approached the larger company. It turned out there were some issues with the internal systems at the larger company, meaning that information provided by the smaller company had not been processed correctly and payments were not made. With persistence from the OSBC caseworker working with both businesses, the larger company eventually settled the outstanding funds.

The small environment services business said:

“I had struggled for 6 months to receive payment for two invoices for work I had completed for a large company. It was very difficult to get any response from them, and when I did, I would be asked to provide information that I had already provided.

The Small Business Commissioner completely changed this, and within a month of contacting them they had managed to make sure I had received the full payment that I was owed.

I would really encourage any small businesses in a similar position to get in touch with them, they were professional, helpful and focused in helping to make sure there was a fair outcome.”
