Gold in Practice: How Brighter Days Markets Champions Fair Payment
Brighter Days Markets gained CIC status in 2024, with the aim of supporting small independent creative businesses in East Kent. We were already running selling events for the quality makers of the area and have been able to add practical professional development sessions to our offer. The FPC Gold Award has given us the means to show that we are a prompt payer, giving suppliers greater confidence in working with us and giving us strength when negotiating with clients.
As small businesses we often take payment at point of sale, but as the enterprises grow there are additional opportunities of selling to retailers, galleries and hospitality venues. Sometimes they have what we see as unfair payment practices, where the small business has to carry the cost of making and delivery of goods for far more than 30 days. This adds financial strain to the business, sometimes resulting in the non-acceptance of orders that would enable the enterprise to grow. Prompt payment matters.
We are proud to be able to show that we pay promptly, that we support business growth and don’t expect our suppliers to carry financial strain.
